A woman named Kathy De Leon recently gave birth to her first son, Elias.
And, recently, one of her coworkers was curious about what movement felt like during pregnancy. So, after thinking about it for a while, Kathy came up with the perfect example.
Since this is something many moms may struggle to explain, Kathy decided to share it on TikTok where it immediately went viral because it was so accurate.
In her TikTok, which has over 2.4 million views, Kathy explains: “So I just figured out how to explain to someone what it feels like when a baby moves inside of you…”
She then describes her thought process, describing that it is sort of like when you press your tongue against your cheek and move it around — but not quite.
“If you put your hand on your cheek and move your tongue, the feeling on your hand is what it feels like.”
“So, do a slow but firm tongue movement, and think about what your hand is feeling, and that is what it feels like,” she concludes.
If you’re a bit confused, but want to try, simply place your palm on the side of your cheek and then move your tongue around against your cheek. The feeling on your palm is kind of like movement during pregnancy.
Right away, moms agreed this was an accurate demonstration.
And some even came in with other examples of the feeling:
BuzzFeed spoke to Kathy, who said her coworker had asked her the question before she had her son, but she couldn’t come up with a good analogy. However, after she returned to work from maternity leave, they revisited the conversation, and this revelation came to her. “I was trying the tongue movements and wondered how it felt, so I put my hand to my cheek, and the feeling had me absolutely mind blown! I was so shocked because I was not expecting that to be the exact feeling that I had been looking for!”
